APPRECIATION

This is an excerpt from marlon brando's famous interview with Larry King:

KING: You do not miss being on a stage?

BRANDO: No, God no.

KING: Why not?

BRANDO: Because it's three hours of blood, sweat, and tears every night. There's nothing to do but blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

KING: Oh, don't diminish that.

BRANDO: What?

KING: Audience.

BRANDO: I don't diminish Shakespeare. I can recite Shakespeare from morning until night until I put you to sleep. I love Shakespeare but I don't like -- I'm not nuts about going to the theater. So often in the past I've gone to the theater and been so bored.

KING: How about working in it though? I mean first of all you get applause.

BRANDO: I'm bored.

KING: Applause.

BRANDO: Who cares about applause? If I get applause from my dog, if I get applause from my children that's enough, God do I have to turn into an applause junkie in order to feel good about myself?

KING: When you started...

BRANDO: How about you? Do you need applause? Larry, that was a great show.

KING: I need, yes, I need acceptance.

so the question: do we need apprectation???????????????

well let me be honest...... few years ago....it mattered very much....

i was invisible to everyone including my parents......i was treated like a piece of shit wherever i went......but one day one of my friends came to me and said "you are just underrating yourself.....just believe in yourself.......sky is the limit for you"................

and suddenly i was flying in the sky.....................................

i felt as if i was walking in a desert and searching for water and finally i got some..................

CHILDREN AND YOUNGSTERS SHOULD BE APPRECIATED OTHERWISE DEPRESSION, DRUG ADDICTION ETC ETC WILL BE YOUR THEIR UNWELCOME GUESTS............

but what about adults?????????????????????????????????????????????????????

do they need appreciation??????

walker asked me a question.............why do u create or produce something????????

i create because thats what i'm born for..........THATS WHY I'M LIVING........TO CREATE...............what others think about my creation is not important for me..............if they think that its good....then i would be happy..............but if they think that its not good............then i would take their advice and improve it.........but if they are people whose hobby is criticizing others then i'll be deaf to them.

I BREATHE BECAUSE I WANT TO EXIST........I CREATE BECAUSE I WANT TO LIVE..........

I WRITE BLOGS NOT FOR APPRECIATION BUT TO KNOW WHAT PEOPLE THINK OF THE SUBJECT...............

I WILL ANSWER IN THE CLASS NOT TO IMPRESS THE TEACHER BUT TO LET HER KNOW WHAT MY THOUGHTS ARE............

I WILL WORK HARD ON MY PRESENTATIONS NOT TO GET APPLAUSE FROM THE AUDIENCE BUT TO SHARE WITH THEM THE KNOWLEDGE THAT I'VE ACQUIRED............

I'M DIFFERENT NOT BECAUSE I WANT TO HEAR PRAISES LIKE " HEY YOU ARE DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS.....I LIKE THAT"............I'M DIFFERENT BECAUSE ITS MY RELIGION..................

I'LL GIVE AWAY MONEY IN CHARITY NOT TO HAVE MY INTERVIEW ON POPULAR NEWS CHANNELS AND TO BE POPULAR AMONG THE SOCIALITES AND TO HEAR PRAISES FROM PAGE THREE REPORTERS......................................................................................................I'LL GIVE CHARITY BECAUSE I UNDERSTAND HOW IT FEELS WHEN YOU DONT KNOW WHETHER YOU'LL TASTE ANOTHER PIECE OF BREAD IN YOUR LIFE....................

my fingers itch 2 feel d keys of d keyboard.......

my legs become restless to conqur d stage..........

my ears like to hear d symphony of applause...........

.but if i dont hear d symphony............

i'll hear the symphony of my principles, my heartbeat, my attitude..........

and will listen to sushmita.............and nothing else matters

i have seen in my own life that if you dont care about how PEOPLE will respond and just do it for yourself...........then your performance reaches another level altoghether........

whats the difference??????

its the difference between character and personality............

its the difference between keating and roark...........

p.s. tommorow i have a presentation.....the person who is going to supervise them doesnt have any clue about what she teaches or what the students say.......she'll not give a damn about what i'll speak............the audience is busy playing tic tac toe......i'm not going to give 100 percent to the presentation.........but i'll give 250 percent........i'm going to get up at 4 in the morning to practice...................damn some people are born weirdos............................

Wonderfully written again.....

A question you tried to answer, but there is one more part to it.
Creation is the source of life, and livelihood. I live to create as well as I live by creating and both are important aspects of creation.
Now, The first part of the sentence requires me to create and not consider the existence of other beings around me. But, it is the second part, that makes me expose myself to this existence outside me. If I am to live, I have to sell my creation. And, my creation will only be sold when people are appreciating it.

This is a mutual give-and-take relation as my creative power take its origin from my life and my life is sustained by the creative power of me.
Now, if I am not in a position where my creative power is not appreciated but only utilized, what do I do?

And, finally, it is nothing wrong to show off, when you have feathers like pea-cock. But, the important point is maintaining the beauty and not to let the feathers fall off..

Waiting your reply..I am liking it...

wow peacock one was kickass man........my frnd told me d same thing.......she said ," if u have talent n ppl dont knw it......wats d use dear???" n i asked, " but y shud i showoff?".......den she said " u dont have 2 b teacher's chamcha (stooge).......all u have 2 do is make ur voice heard"

DERE IS NOTHING WRONG IN MAKING UR VOICE HEARD............BUT THERE IS A THIN LINE BETWEEN MAKING YOUR VOICE HEARD AND SHOUTING.........
when i am making a powerpoint presentation i only think about what i want to do..............n so ur 2nd part............after d presentation do i care abt whether my work is appreciated or not????
dats something very intersting......tell now whatever my grp has presented it was liked by ever1 in d audience.......if they didnt like d ppt i wudnt mind coz most (all of them) r toxiz wastes of life.........if the audience had ppl like u ,june mandar, alok etc etc..........
I WOULDN'T MIND APPRECIATION......
but then.........i wudnt die if im not appreciated....nor will my passion decrease.....

Don't take this personally, but did you know, Sushmita, that TYPING IN CAPITAL LETTERS is the Internet equivalent of SHOUTING?

:D

So basically, you are rating the critiques of your works, and you know whose appreciation you shall like, and that means you are prepared/eager for their appreciation.
Anyways, that is not the thing of my concern. I am rather concerned about your powerpoint presentation.
Look, if you are writing poetry then you are expressing, but if you are inventing a better alloy, you are creating.
ANd none is observer independent. The poetry is always written taking in mind that somebody shall read it. I make a thousand poetries everyday, and only a few are shared with the mass, a few with the conjurer, and the rest with the projector.
The man making the alloy must know what is its use, and what he wants to do with it. And that again brings other in the perspective. You can not create things without keeping a beneficiary in mind. And that beneficiary may be even you....

Lastly, about showing off, true talent always radiates like magnet and this is a metaphor I have used more than thousand times.
Like attracts like, and it is a cent percent true sentence.....

And it requires a bit of dressing up to sweep of the central existence...Do you mind putting on your best dress for your beloved?

The answer is a leading one...How shall he know? Till you let him know...

hey walker one question....lets say you are an actor....we all know what kind os stuff sells in india....a romantic number....item number etc .....obviously you are not that type of actor......so will you try to sell your creativity for the mass audience by compromising?......or you will not compromise and make a movie which will atleast attract critics and intelligent audience?

AbodhBalok said...

The categorization would arise from my choice, of course.
Look, sometimes, you need to prepare the audience for the stuff you want to sell...
Romantic numbers..I do not even watch them...

Perhaps, I would work in a stone quarry...[:P]

Appreciation is something that we all need, be it from parents, friends,.....
Without appreciation, how could we ever know whether what we're doing is good enough to influence others?
I mean, we all, in some way or other, get to know what we want to do in life. We may get inspired by Role Models or Heroes (see June's Blog), and appreciate what they have done and know that they have been appreciated by others. We take up our passions and work hard expecting to become something like them, or in fact, something better than them.

Sometimes, however, it seems that the path we chose is wrong because people do not appreciate our early efforts at it. People who ignore this lack of appreciation, knowing that they will be appreciated later, are the ones who become successful. Look at Jimmy Page for example. He was removed from his school because he brought his guitar to class, but he persevered and became a world class musician, inspiring countless others. Another example would be Bill Gates, whose magnificent vision enabled us to have something as useful as the Internet.

There's also a class of people who'll do exactly what Gandhiji said:
"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win"

Thus, If you enjoy what you are doing currently in life (and if it does not harm society), go ahead and do it, without expecting any praise. You'll get loads of it later!

Another one like Marlon Brando....
----------
Reporter: How many people who labor in the same musical vineyard in which you toil - how many are protest singers? That is, people who use their music, and use the songs to protest the, uh, social state in which we live today: the matter of war, the matter of crime, or whatever it might be.

Bob Dylan: Um...how many?

Reporter: Yes. How many?

Bob Dylan: Uh, I think there's about, uh...136.

Reporter: You say about 136, or you mean exactly 136?

Bob Dylan: Uh, it's either 136 or 142.
