Firstly i would like to thank my friend Mandar for suggesting this book. The book lets you feel the pain of the defeated hero: the hero who endured the biggest obstacles to fulfill his dream but saw that dream evaporate.............in front of his own eyes.... today one of my friends was telling me about a family who could have had it all: but simply could'nt. the family was going through a financial crisis.....but they worked hard and things started looking up.........one of the children got a job........but when he was coming back from his office he met with an accident.....and he DIED due to sick service of the municipality hospital.
sometimes we think that this is OUR time.......but suddenly something drastic happens and our dreams are washed away by ocean's deadly currents..............people say its DESTINY........i think that it just happens because it might not be the right time..........maybe you have to WAIT.............there is a time for everything.REMEMBER TIME IS GOD.
There are so many defeated heroes in our world.....people forget them.......they say that they are losers......i would say one thing to those people:
WINNING IS NOT HAVING YOUR PHOTOGRAPH ON THE FRONT PAGE OF TIMES OF INDIA AND BOMBAY TIMES BECAUSE YOU ATTENDED A HOTSHOT PARTY
WINNING IS NOT THAT GOLD MEDAL OR THE PRIZE THAT YOU KEEP IN YOUR SHOWCASE...............
WINNING IS NOT WHAT POSITION YOU HAVE ACHIEVED IN YOUR ORGANIZATION.............
WINNING IS NOT HOW MANY CARS YOU HAVE IN YOUR GARAGE....................
WINNING IS NOT HOW MANY MAID-SERVANTS YOU EMPLOY............
WINNING IS THE NUMBER OF HOURS YOU SPEND STUDYING WHEN THE OTHERS WERE WATCHING INDIAN IDOL..........
WINNING IS THE AMOUNT OF TIME YOU SPENT TYPING 1 MILLION WORDS WHILE THE OTHERS WERE CUTTING-COPYING AND PASTING.....
WINNING IS THE INDOMITABLE STRENGTH THAT A PERSON SHOWS TO STAND AGAINST THE WORLD'S SCUM WHEN THE OTHERS JUST GETAWAY THROUGH FLATTERY AND THE WORLD'S FAVOURITE WINE (BRIBE)..........
BUT PEOPLE ONLY SEE THE RESULTS...........SANTIAGO IS A LOSER BECAUSE AT THE END OF THE DAY HE DID'NT CATCH ANYTHING................
BUT SANTIAGO REMAINS A HERO IN MY EYES............WHAT ABOUT YOU????????

To win is to conqur...to vanquish...to win...
Winning is converting the hours spent in studies in to results..
Winning is making people read the endless letters that is written...And proving that they are not gibberish ramblings..
Winning is being different...for most people are losers...
Winning is being weird..for win follows ruthlessness...and people find ruthless ones weird....
Winning is doing likable things...and being successful doing so..
And winning is the work...For preparation does not follow win by design...
And photo in times magazine is a result...
And for that..Ma falesu kadachana...
Finally, winning is being righteous...all who use other means to achieve are CHEATRS....
I feel your definations are preparations...
Do check it again...
Would you be happy without achieving results?
kkk true that i would'nt be satisfied if i don't achieve results....but my question is that we do we always judge people by what they have achieved???? if you met santiago today then you would judge him by results i.e a fisherman who has not caught a single fish after being in the sea for abt 3 to 4 days.......will you be indiffrent to him just because he has not caught the fish?????? he has put in 100 percent efforts.......don;t u think ppl who have worked so hard are winners too???????
Santiago had the head and the tails, the cut mark on his hand....
And I am talking about judging oneslef rather than judging others...
Even though, it is only their achievement that shall bring them in to my notice...
There would have been no story if SantiAgo dint catch the fish...
And that is success...
Appreciations are not essential for existance..But success is..For me
okkk if u said that in respect to judging oneself then i'll agree with u........but tell me mr.walker...u have written that winning is being righteous......if someone tries to stand against all the corruption n all the scum of the earth...he stands n stands n stands........but he does'nt succeed............den is he a hero n successful person in ur dictionary????????????????????????
n wats ur take on this line frm illusions
u don't tell the quality of master by the size of his crowd
Great are those man who had traversed a path and succeeded, greater are those who deviced the path to known, courageous were those who tried but failed, and worked as inspiration or as forgottens doomed.
Strange is this world, and tough are its rules. Nothing but the best survives, unless it is an parasite. And Strange it is for it gives everyone of us a chance to shape it the way we want.
And we grow up with dreams to change...and we keep on trying. And a day comes when we unknowingly realise that instead of shaping the world, we have shaped ourselves to fit it.
Great is that man, and blessed is his courage, who decides to fight till he sees the end. Though, the "Hero" tag misses him, he is no less a person.
Great are those players who succeed when luck fevers them.
Greater are those who succeed even when it goes against.
Greatest are those who dont care, for they know luck is made by their own able hands...
Phew..That was long...
As for the second question,
I would judge the master by the quality of his crowd rather than quantity of his crowd....
As is seen through ages, the best student and teacher ratio is mutually exclusive......
hey i would like to chip in here...
success is what makes people take notice of an individual. thats right...rather forget the individual....success is what makes a person take notice of an individual...
now this success of an individual is being judged by the person based on his standards. now lets say you have to hire a fellow for some job of writing and he hasn't published a damn work till now but, has his works...you read 'em and like 'em. so would you hire him or say a fellow who has published lots of stupid stuff. like if you want fish you would much rather go to a person who has the capability rather than one who has caught them by sheer luck for the past few months or so....
who is more likely to get you the fish or the right kind of work???
rather than success what matters is the capability of the person to perform the work. like today there are hell lot of people who dont achieve things as they dont have the oppurtunity or whatever
(i knw i sound a bit like a communist) but, i do not want to create a framework that helps all such people. rather what i am saying is that success cannot be held to be the sole criteria of judging the person for a particular job.
next i would like to pose a question.......
are impossible goals necessarily irrational???
i would like to continue more but, would like an answer to the question before i proceed.
Mandar,
Firstly who has produced has seen success...
And he is the man for me, who could bring out out that which was in his mind in to existance...I will appreciate him
The man who can not produce is not the man for me, and life does justice to everyone...
Goals are never impossible...though they may be hard..
It is irrational to try and comprehend theory of relativity when you do not know Newton...
Whoah!
There's a huge debate of viewpoints over here...
I think I'll poke my nose in here too, with my opinions. I'm not forcing you to accept them, but these are my opinions.
A person who works hard silently, behind the scenes, is much better than a person who'd sell their soul to achieve results.
Success is only a way people judge each other by. What matters most is a sense of personal satisfaction. A person who keeps on working hard will achieve success, maybe a bit late. However, it is a tendency of the common person to ignore people who produce no results, even if they are working hard. This leads to discouragement for the hard working.
alok just said wat i wanted 2 say........i agree with him.....wat abt others???
Kudos to you Sushmita for writing such a reflective blog at such a young age.Unfortunately the underlying depth of your blog missed out on many here except Alok.
You were absolutely right saying that once you consider winning your goal,it kind of brings in the concept of Competition.Pray, competition with whom? The mass, the mediocres, the panderers, the lobbyists, the back stabbers? That's a collectivist approach.
To me one has to keep excelling and competing with his own self.Remember Bubka,Schumi??What did Howard roark do?Did he ever compete or cared about the people's opinion?Who judges by the way?
Roark had his unwavering conviction in his own self that lead him to his delayed but well earned success never succumbing to the standard set by the masses. That's individualism to the hilt.
Santiago was a face apart from the crowd and he achieved his moment of glory and there he was successful. He was neither crushed nor defiant , he was calm.
Keep up the good work.Way to go Lady.
thnx a lot june.......finally i got a supporter!!!!!!!!! where's walker???
Sushmita, Here I Am..
I again repeat my words, success is winning, success is production.
Not to bother about people? It is a cool thing to say. And it is cool to say, I do not care about anybody.
I ask those who preach this particular version, why did Galt want to come beck to this world? Why did not he continue to have his Atlantis? Why he wanted to take the producers there?
Look, the age is rebellious. And altruism is a vice. But, production needs buyers, or Roark ends in a stone quarry. Is there no man who can appreciated your work? See again. Do you not want their appreciation? Do you not want to sell your product to them? To them who matter?
Hard work and trying are appreciated, ok. And that's it.
But Roark, Galt, Santiago all achieved what they set out to do. And whether they worked hard or not does not natter. What matters is that they did it all by themselves.
Roark was a success. And that makes him a hero.
Galt made the field. He is a better hero.
Well, I see no post that contradicts my views here...
Rather, all are talking about a different thing.
Success is catching the fish, and not selling it...Got it?
If you fail to catch it, and spend forty days is the sea searching for it, you are courageous. But, you are not a HERO and you are not HAPPY then.
Contradict this.
success is catching d fish n not selling it......i'll buy that.....now please tellme one thing.....does success mean using the peter keating technique?????? he was ruthless right????? will u do stuff tht he did to succeed????
I HOPE U DON'T...................
n yeah i wud like appreciation frm ppl who matter,,ppl like u....mandar or june....or anyone whom i respect........i wud write a blog on appreciation after this so tht v can discuss abt appreciation....
sushmita
did you miss the word righteous?
There is one more point here, Why do you work/produce/create...
Hope you touch it in the next post of yours...
cheers
cool i will......
@Sushmita
I was not supporting you.I was appreciating you.
Once you start looking out for outside support,You'll devalue yourself.I sincerely believe that you'll not need the crutch of support for your own convictions.
@Ramyangshu
Galt didn't come to pick out the so called successful people but to take the productive geniuses who were not rewarded with the honour and successes that was due to them from the sham world.
June,
Do you think they were not successful?
My definition render them Successful. And I think the prime objective of Galt was not to take them away, but to make a system where the deserving got their appreciation.
Galt took away the successful, lest peater Keating may have found a place in his atlantis, as an artist
allrite........thnx for d appreciation......
@Ramyangshu,
You amuse me so much. You said 'You' consider them successful.Didn't I say the same? The issue was the world didn't considered them as successful and they couldn't care less. :-)
Regarding your next half of the comment, I marvel at your fertile imagination.
You were absolutely right saying that once you consider winning your goal,it kind of brings in the concept of Competition.Pray, competition with whom? The mass, the mediocres, the panderers, the lobbyists, the back stabbers? That's a collectivist approach.
june, this is what I stand against. winning is not defined by the others, it is defined by my purpose and my ability.
and, I think I need appreciation, and I try to find my kinda people once in a while.
and yes, I do have imagination.....
winning is for SELF
